The test drive planned in collaboration with Autohaus Centurion with many donating companies and individuals was successfully completed, starting on Friday 19thand finishing on Saturday 20thOctober. The team consisted of three Amarok V6 and a 2.0lt Amarok models, covering just under 1000 kms.
The objective was twofold during the event. Target one was to measure the Amarok V6’s drivability over some demanding tar and gravel roads with badly potholed and very poor road conditions. All vehicles where well loaded with the goodies for the school. The second objective, could the Amarok V6 deliver the load safely over the distance planned, approximately 550 kms out and 500kms during the second days Test Drive! Two Main objectives achieved successfully by the Amarok Social Test Drive teams. Comments noted included “Great fun”,” Wow”!

All tuition is done in English via an Interpreter to assist with progress towards an accepted base language. The welcome we received in the large hall was surprising with Christian based songs well known to us. Thanks to Geertje Venter for hosting our group of eight, driving the Great Amarok V6 double cabs sponsored by Autohaus Light Commercial division based in Centurion.
The Amarok Social Group moved onto the Oranje Guest Farm close to Clarens as our overnight stopover point. Surprisingly with a long history as all buildings are constructed with Sand Stone bricks. Farm History dates to pre-Anglo/Boer war years. Exceptional large well laid out accommodation was very welcome after a 5.30am start. Onto Clarens for drinks and a hearty dinner at the Highlander Restaurant. Hot Oxtail for some and Durban Curry for others were delicious!!!!!
Wonderful night’s sleep under thick duvets. Breakfast was arranged for 8am. Hearty farm styled meal culminated with toast and apricot jam.
Splash and dash for fuel and steady return drive via the N3 to Centurion. Surprise as we had an estimated fuel consumption for the Social Test Drive. Won at 8.6 litres per 100 kms. Well enjoyed by all participants. Vehicle opinions by all were emphasised by the comfort and superb ability of the VW Amaroks that took part. Opinions of the participants had many superlatives express with much laughter and rivalry during event.
